Fabrication and applications of fullerene-based metal nanocomposites: A review

Several fabrication methods have been proposed to develop the metal matrix nanocomposites (MMNCs) reinforced by carbon nanomaterials (mostly nanotubes, and graphene) means of liquid-state solid-state techniques. The spraying processes, squeeze casting, disintegrated melt deposition milling fabrication, friction stir processing used fabricate composite. However, MMNCs, containing fullerenes as reinforcement, are less known, although properties these objects with predominant sp2 bonding also extend their use in composites. Fullerenes hollow molecules form a sphere (buckyballs). Buckyballs can be essentially regarded graphite layers, i.e., graphene sheets, wrapped into spherical shape. Considering staggering cost limited availability purified single-walled nanotubes (CNTs) graphene, structure offer an interesting alternative CNTs since they available abundance at much feasible cost.
